Happy Columbus Day!
On this day, we commemorate the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the Americas, landing on an island in the Bahamas (good choice, he could have arrived in Baltimore!) in 1492. His Spanish maritime expedition to cross the Atlantic Ocean was in search of an alternative route to the Far East, but like all men he just refused to ask for directions and ended up in America. But at least he was able to parallel park the boat when he finally arrived…
And because all of Western and/or European history is super-duper bad now, there’s a growing crowd who refuse to celebrate Columbus Day, and are trying to rebrand it as Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
Of course, the Democrats want to honor the cultures, traditions, and contributions of our country’s first people…all while keeping their positions of power.
Now…here’s the thing. There’s nothing wrong with having an Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Honestly, given that we have Black History MONTH and Pride MONTH, one day for an entire race of people that were essentially ethnically cleansed over centuries seems like a bit of an insult.
But the problem here is that people are trying to replace Columbus Day with a counter-celebration.
Christopher Columbus’s discovery of the Americas resulted in the development of the greatest civilization the world has ever known: a civilization many of the people blithering on about Indigenous Peoples’ Day still happily live in. After all, I don’t see Kamala Harris protesting Columbus by refusing to use indoor plumbing…
